History

The Indonesian Algebra Society (IndoAS) has its origins in the 1980s, driven by collaborative efforts in Yogyakarta led by Prof. Achmad Arifin (ITB), Prof. Setiadji (UGM), and Prof. Soeparno (UGM). Their dedication laid the groundwork for a formal algebraic community in Indonesia.

In 1996, the society was officially established as the Himpunan Peminat Aljabar (HPA), initially serving Yogyakarta and Central Java, with Prof. Dr. Sri Wahyuni (UGM) as its first president. The organization expanded nationally in 2003, reflecting its growing influence within the Indonesian mathematical community.

In January 2015, HPA rebranded as the Indonesian Algebra Society (Komunitas Peminat Aljabar) to better represent its national scope and international aspirations. The leadership of the organization over the years is as follows:
